I haven’t been doing much writing lately, as much progress as I made on the new book a few months, I kind of ran out of steam. But now I have a short story to finish and the rest of my book to write. My best writing time seems to have switched on me again from early morning back to evening. It always takes me a while to adjust.
I’m nearly recovered from our car accident a couple of weeks ago. My sprained wrist is hurting less and less and I’m in the process of finding a new car. Hopefully once all the paperwork is turned into the insurance company this mess can be put behind me. I still think it’s kind of a comical blessing that a gallon of spilled milk is what caused the insurance company to decide it was totaled. God’s timing is always fascinating if you are paying attention. Just like a few years ago when we needed a new roof and a big hail storm came through.
Tuesday night was a great joy for me. The University of Virginia at Wise has a literary publication called Jimson Weed and one of my poems was chosen to be in it. They have a coffee night that coincides with the release and I was asked to read my poem “Houses Hung with Memories”. There were lots of other writers there, some that I have had the pleasure of becoming friends with over the past year. I nervously sat, listening to others read their work waiting for my turn. Once it was my turn, my nerves faded and I enjoyed reading for everyone. I received several compliments on my reading and my poem. The famous writer/director Adriana Trigiani was there speaking to the students and being a big fan of her work I was honored to have read in front of her. I’m looking forward to future readings there.
Life is good, stressful and imperfect, but good. I’m anxious to finish the stories playing in my head and see where the next road takes me.
